ABB aims to help Brazilian energy company improve power supply

9. November 2018 - ABB has signed a contract worth approximately $ 20 million with Furnas - Centrais Elétricas SA for the supply of electrical systems that provide existing AC power transmission systems. Transfer higher power into densely populated southeastern Brazil. The installation is located near the Brazilian capital Brasilia. The order was booked in the third quarter of 2018.

Brazil has an extensive transmission and distribution network. The electricity is generated by hydropower plants in the north and west of the country as well as by wind farms on the east coast. It is then transmitted over long distances to urban load centers in the southeast.

This north-south link helps to optimize the use of hydropower and wind energy as electricity can flow in both directions.

Series Compensation technologies are part of ABB's family of FACTS (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems) technologies that increase transmission capacity while improving current stability.
