ABB introduces ABB Ability Smart Sensor for Low Voltage Motors

30. July 2018 – ABB has developed the ABB Ability Smart Sensor for low-voltage motors. The intelligent sensor can be retrofitted in a few minutes for many types of existing low-voltage motors. It is wirelessly connected to the engine frame and uses Bluetooth Low Energy to send operating data to a smartphone app, a desktop PC or even in encrypted form to the cloud for advanced analysis.

The sensor collects data including: various types of vibration, bearing health, cooling performance, air gap eccentricity, rotor winding condition, skin temperature, energy consumption, load, operating hours, number of starts and RPM

The result is that the engine is indicating to the operator when it is time for a service. Analytics from the cloud can also provide clues about the status and health of the entire fleet.

Plant managers who want to take the next steps should take a close look at intelligent sensor and condition monitoring to reach the age of IIoT.
