Advantech, Behr Technologies, Hitachi Solutions and Microsoft Partners Develop IIoT Connectivity Solutions

18. July 2018 – Microsoft Inspire – Advantech, Behr Technologies (BTI), Hitachi Solutions America and Microsoft announced that the companies work together to provide wireless communications solutions with scalability and security for residential industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networks. With no single technology vendor enabling IIoT on its own, this collaborative effort will provide a mass end-to-end solution for the wireless gateway to connect to production-level sensors for industrial and commercial applications. Solution Provides Scalability, Penetration, Integration, and Interoperability with Legacy Systems

This collaboration aims to meet the market demand for ready-to-use IIoT wireless communication solutions for connecting the various sensors used by industry and commerce customers in their business intelligence applications. efforts. The foundation for the joint effort is BTI MIOTY, a low-power WAN communication solution that uses the ETSI standard TS UNB specification (Teaching Splitting Ultra-Narrow Band) for throughput networks, which enables companies to implement private IoT sensor networks. Using industry-standard Advantech gateways, BTI MIOTY transmits up to 1.5 million messages per day within a five to fifteen kilometer radius with no network operator requirements. Superimposed on this infrastructure, Hitachi Solutions' IoT Service Hub enables organizations to connect and monitor devices and analyze data in real time to improve operational efficiency.

The first application resulting from this collaboration is an approach to worker safety using the BTI MIOTY LPWAN wireless solution on an industry-standard gateway. Using a portable device to monitor heart rate of workers in high-risk industrial environments, data on the health of hundreds of workers on unlicensed sub-gigahertz frequencies is transmitted via BTI MIOTY to a single Advantech base station. From there, it will be communicated to the Microsoft Cloud, where Hitachi Solutions' IoT Service Hub can provide actionable insights into employee health and alerts when employees are at risk.
