Balluff introduces ceramic caps for sensors

27. July 2018 – Balluff ceramic caps extend sensor life by providing a protective coating for the face of sensors in harsh conditions. The caps, which can be added before or after installation, protect sensors from heat, spatter, abrasives and shocks.

Often made of aluminum and magnesium / aluminum alloys, which reduces weight but also reduces sensor performance, sensors are placed in close proximity to the parts to be monitored – directly in case of damage. The front of the sensor is the most sensitive area, and if the face gets damaged, the sensor will begin to misread or stop the work. The addition of a ceramic cap can help to prevent this damage and thus extend the life of the sensor.

The ceramic caps offer end protection for inductive proximity sensors in built-in and cylindrical versions. The caps can be easily threaded to protect the most delicate area of a cylindrical sensor – where the face meets the barrel. The caps are compatible with every sensor brand.
