Makino announces five axis horizontal machining center on a500Z

une 25, 2018 – Makino announces the latest addition to its family of horizontal machining centers, the five axis a500Z. Built on the nx series four-axis HMCs, this machine adds a factory-built and fully integrated fifth "Z-type" axis to meet more complex part geometry requirements in a minimum number of part setups and machining operations. The kinematic arrangement of the a500Z minimizes the force path lengths through both the spindle and the workpiece and efficiently transfers both cutting forces and reaction forces to the machine's three-point leveling bed and maximizes both metal removal rates and perishable tool life rigidity

All axes The A500Z has a closed-loop active temperature control loop that provides dimensional control inherent in this design. With speeds on all linear axes of 2.362 inches per minute (60 meters per minute) and a B-axis rotation rate of 45,000 degrees per minute, this platform enables efficient machine movement.

The a500Z's standard 14,000-RPM high-performance spindle delivers 49.6 hp (37 kW) peak output and 303 N-m (303 N-m) maximum torque, making it suitable for material applications. The tool changer magazine sizes range from the standard tool ring to the 313 matrix magazine.

The standard automatic pallet changer on the a500Z increases machine utilization by running the workpiece holding device on one pallet while the workpiece on the other pallet is being machined.
