Microchip Technology Launches SAM L10 and SAM L11 MCU Families

25. June 2018 – To meet the growing security needs, the SAM L10 and SAM L11 MCU families are now available from Microchip Technology

based on the Arm Cortex-M23 core, with the SAM L11 featuring Arm TrustZone for Armv8-M, a programmable environment that provides hardware isolation between certified libraries, IP and application code. Microchip provides security through the inclusion of chip-level manipulation resistance, secure boot and secure key storage, which, in combination with TrustZone technology, protects customer applications from both remote and physical attacks.

Both MCU families feature capacitive touch functions with water tolerance and noise immunity. In performance evaluation, the SAM L10 received a ULPMark score of 405, which was certified by EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium.

In addition to TrustZone technology, the SAM L11 security features include an on-board encryption module that supports Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Galois Counter Mode (GCM), and Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA). The tamper-evident boot and keystore provides a hardware trust foundation.

It also provides a secure boot loader for secure firmware upgrades. Microchip is partnering with Trustonic, a member of the Microchip Security Design Partner Program. Microchip also partnered with Secure Thingz and Data I / O Corporation to provide secure delivery services to SAM L11 customers.

Both MCU families offer the Microchip Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC) for capacitive touch capabilities. The touch interface makes the devices suitable for a variety of automotive, home appliance, medical and consumer human-machine interface (HMI) applications.
