15. May 2018 – Opto 22 announces the release of the PAC Project Software Suite R10. This version supports the groov EPIC system, adds eight control commands and provides the ability to set individual I / O and variable tags as public access for read or read / write use in IIoT data communications via MQTT / Sparkplug. As in previous versions, it incorporates HMI programming, and it uses the same tag name database as the real-time control engine and provides automatic integration between the two functions.

Opto 22 industrial controllers-SNAP PAC programmable automation controllers and now groov EPIC edge programmable industrial controllers are usually programmed with the PAC Project Software Suite. PAC Project Basic, which can be downloaded for free, includes flowchart-based control programming with optional scripting, a configuration utility, and HMI development. PAC Project Professional adds an OPC server, database connectivity, PC-based control configuration, and legacy Opto 22 I / O device support.

The suite's control programming software, PAC Control, has more than 450 Plain English commands and PID graphical tuning and debugging. HMI programming is provided with PAC Display. PAC Display Basic is an HMI package for building operator interface applications for communicating with Groov EPIC processors, SNAP PAC controllers, and Ethernet-based I / O devices. PAC Display offers features such as alerting, trends, security, and a library of over 3,000 industrial automation graphics.

PAC Display Professional provides the ability to use redundant scanners and redundant Ethernet connections on groov EPIC processors and SNAP PAC controllers. PAC Display Professional also allows logging of SuperTrends, historical logs, and runtime logging files in an ODBC database.

Commands added to PAC Control include two special for groov EPIC: pick up I / O channel quality and get I / O unit quality. The groov EPIC I / O modules contain LEDs that change color depending on the functionality of the module and display the data quality to a local technician. This information can be programmatically configured or retrieved in the control logic using these two new commands.

Another feature is the full support for MQTT / Sparkplug data communication provided by Ignition Edge, which is embedded in groov EPIC. MQTT's publish-subscribe communication architecture is superior to request-response methods, and Sparkplug optimizes MQTT for industrial applications.

Public Access tags are a new PAC control feature to ensure the use of MQTT / Sparkplug. During configuration, the developer can use public access to specify which tags should be displayed and to label each exposed tag as read-only or read-write.

Tags in PAC Control contain I / O channels and program variables, some of which are presented in public access in several ways.
