OSI to Replace Electricity Company in Arizona

29. June 2018 – Open Systems International received an order from UNS Energy, the parent company of Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and its sister company UniSource Energy Services (UES), to deliver an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) operating on the OSF platform based on monarch operations (OT) by OSI. TEP serves more than 424,000 electric customers in the Greater Tucson area and UES provides natural gas and electrical services to more than 252,000 customers in the north and south of Arizona.

The ADMS will also replace the utility's legacy failure management system (OMS) by providing an integrated enterprise OT solution that enables operational decisions based on information from various Grid devices and automated meters. It provides a platform for integration with new technologies such as distributed energy resources, weather models and automated devices for advanced management of the distribution network.

In addition to the full SCADA distribution capabilities of the OSI Monarch platform, this ADMS implementation becomes the following: Distribution Network – Operational Model, one Full complement of advanced distribution management applications, outage management system, switch order management and distribution operator training simulator

"Our new ADMS from OSI will give us an intelligent situational awareness of the power grid," said Erik Bakken, VP of System Operations and Environmental at TEP and US Energy. "It will enable us to actively operate and maintain the power distribution system and more effectively manage the increasing levels of decentralized generation (renewable), energy storage and real-time network information."
