November 2018 - At formnext 2018, Siemens will introduce the Simcenter 3D Additive Manufacturing Build Process Simulation, an integrated software solution that simulates the powder-based laser application process to enable printouts the first time. The solution predicts deformation, overheating, and other defects that might occur during printing, and automatically generates the corrected geometry to compensate for distortions and defects.
Also on the Siemens booth at formnext will be offered integrated and automated solutions for post-processing steps, such as powdering and removing the support structure. In collaboration with the machine builder Solukon, Siemens demonstrates the automated removal of metal powder from complex parts with internal channels and cavities. The Solukon SFM-AT800S machine is equipped with Simatic controllers from Siemens and Sinamics drive and motor solutions. To streamline the entire powder process, Siemens is developing intelligent algorithms that determine the optimum powder path and automate the machine's programming.
In cooperation with the machine manufacturer EOS, Siemens is also demonstrating an automated process for removing support structures with a CNC milling machine. A digital twin of the finished 3D printed components, including support structures, is used as the basis for NC program generation. The process supports the user from the initial positioning of the components in the installation space to the optimal positioning of the parts for automated processing.
