5. July 2018 – Siemens has introduced the Simatic RTU3031C (Remote Terminal Unit / RTU) with integrated GPS functionality to compare the setpoint with the current position. This makes it suitable for static applications, such as monitoring distributed metering points in the water industry, as well as for mobile applications that require localization capabilities. This includes, for example, position monitoring for floating navigation signs or container tracking. In addition, Siemens will introduce an expansion board that can connect up to eight additional sensors to the telecontrol devices. The firmware for the product family also offers users functions such as the connection to redundant control stations and function blocks for the statistical evaluation of process values.

The Simatic RTU3000C telecontrol units are specially designed for energy self-sufficient operation in environments without power supply system. They can be supplied redundantly with power, for example, with up to six battery modules or a battery with a solar panel. They can also be used in harsh ambient conditions such as temperatures from -40 ° C to +70 ° C or in case of flooding (protection class IP68). With the Simatic RTU3031C, Siemens extends this product family with an RTU that can be connected to a GPS antenna and provides location and time synchronization functions via the GPS signal. Users can use it to monitor process data such as level, level and flow as well as pressure and temperature at remote and even mobile measuring points.

The RTU3031C has a built-in UMTS modem that sends the collected data to a control center in a time- or event-oriented manner. Like all telecontrol devices of the RTU3000C product family, the device supports the connection to a control center with telecontrol protocols (IEC 60870, DNP3, Sinaut ST7 and TeleControl Basic) and also serves as a data logger. In addition, all measured process values ​​can be stored in the internal memory or on an SD card and, if necessary, remote-read via web-based management or sent to defined partners via secure file transfer or e-mail. Integrated inputs and outputs allow direct connection of the sensors. The device is the only one in the family to offer four additional digital outputs (DQ) as solid-state relays alongside the four standard analog inputs (AI), digital inputs (DI) and four DQs.

The expansion card for the RTU3000C family of products enables the connection of eight additional sensors via Modbus RTU. It can be used with all variants of the product family, such as the Sitrans FM MAG8000 for flow measurements.

The V3 firmware offers many enhancements, such as interfacing to control centers with redundant IEC 60870 masters, web-based administration and user management extensions, WAN connection over DNP3, and IEC 60870 without OpenVPN to operate the RTU3030C or RTU3031C over connections. which are already encrypted by mobile service providers (private APNs). In addition, users have access to statistical function blocks, pulse train output for precise control of periodic signals, and module health status management (such as safe shutdown, restart, etc.). This also allows connection setup for encrypted connections.
